Camp levels

There is a group for exactly where you are.

Level 0

Can do: clip into skis, walk and balance in ski boots, side-step up a gentle incline, glide on the flat, fall and get up, ride a lift.
Terrain: flat nursery area / magic carpet.
Ski:IQ: not yet measurable.

Level 1

Can do: straight-run a gentle slope in balance, control speed and stop with the wedge, link left–right wedge turns down a green, skis beginning to match at the end of the turn.
Terrain: green runs.
Ski:IQ: ~60–80 (the wedge is scored low).

Level 2

Can do: consistent parallel turns down any EU blue (≈ USA blue), steady rhythm with a pole plant, vary turn size, stop comfortably from speed.
Terrain: all blues.
Ski:IQ: ~90–110 (mid intermediate).

Level 3

Can do: skidded parallel turns down red runs in full control of speed and line; comfortable on a steeper pitch; solid hockey stop.
Terrain: reds (skidded).
Ski:IQ: ~105–120.

Level 4

Can do: clean carved "railroad-track" turns on blue groomers; first skidded short turns on blue / easy red; edging and angulation building.
Terrain: blues (carving), easy reds (short turns).
Ski:IQ: ~115–128 (around the Carv-user median).

Level 5

Can do: begin carving on moderate red groomers; dynamic parallel on reds with cross-over transitions; reliable skidded short turns on reds; first variable snow and easy off-piste.
Terrain: reds confidently, intro bumps and soft snow.
Ski:IQ: ~125–140 (advanced).

Level 6

Can do: confident carving on steep EU red / USA blue groomers with good edge angle and angulation; crud and bumps handled with composure.
Terrain: steep reds (carving), variable snow.
Ski:IQ: ~140–150 (advanced → expert).

Level 7

Can do: good, controlled short turns on EU black / USA black-diamond runs (skidded, with strong edge control); steeps and moguls skied with composure.
Terrain: blacks (short turns), moguls, steeps.
Ski:IQ: ~150–158 (expert). This is your "150+ / almost certainly not there yet" anchor.

Level 8

Can do: carving on red and easy black groomers; first carved (not just skidded) short turns; off-piste competence across conditions.
Terrain: easy blacks (carving), off-piste.
Ski:IQ: ~155–163.

Level 9

Can do: strong carving across blacks; rhythmic, linked short turns down most blacks; confident in steeps, bumps, variable snow and off-piste.
Terrain: blacks broadly, all conditions.
Ski:IQ: ~160–167.

The two most common worries

Both are almost always wrong.

  • "What if im not good enough"

If you can parallel turn on a European Blue Run you are ready to join a camp.

  • "Will i be the only solo Traveller"

Many campers are solo travellers, so you will not be alone.

  • "Aren't I too old?"

Adults only. Most guests are between 25 and 70.

  • "Will I be held back?"

3–4 groups by ability, so you ski with skiers at your level.

I really liked it!

Stomp It Freestyle camp is the real deal, and yes, you should sign up if you even have the slightest inclination to try freestyle. Full disclosure: I'm only in my second season of skiing, and I showed up a little nervous about being the oldest one on the hill. Both concerns evaporated pretty fast. The way the coaches break things down makes stuff that looks scary feel totally approachable, and then suddenly you're doing it.

I really liked it!

It was my second camp this year. Its the best, the great coaches and ofcourse perfect conditions of the Freestyle park in Laax. I really enjoyed the week together with all the other guests and its always interesting and a lot of fun. I would totally recommend this camp to anyone who wants to try something new or already knows his way around a freestyle park. 10/10

I really liked it!

Amazing experience, easily in the top 3 life experiences. Instructors Charlie and Vincent are awesome and show extraordinary patience with a 50-year-old clown such as myself who probably should not do freestyle skiing to start with. I sure hope I'll meet you guys again next season.

Mathias Berg, Freestyle
